Narendra Modi is the current Prime Minister of India, having taken office on May 26, 2014. Prior to his tenure as Prime Minister, Modi served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a right-wing Hindu nationalist organization.

Modi's political career began in the 1970s as a member of the RSS, where he held various positions within the organization. In 1985, he joined the BJP and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the General Secretary of the Gujarat state unit of the party in 1988. In 2001, Modi was appointed Chief Minister of Gujarat following the resignation of his predecessor, and he served in that role for a total of 13 years.

As Chief Minister, Modi implemented various economic and infrastructure development programs in Gujarat, and the state saw significant economic growth during his tenure.
